- CVE-2026-81825, 11 Sep 2026
- The Simple Ajax Chat - Add a Fast, Secure Chat Box plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via Chat Message in all versions up to, and including, <= 20260811 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The nonce protecting chat message submission is publicly visible on the chat page, rendering it ineffective as an authentication barrier and allowing fully unauthenticated attackers to submit malicious messages that are stored persistently and rendered to all visitors on every page load. CVE record
- CVE-2026-81807, 2 Sep 2026
- The Simple Ajax Chat WordPress plugin before 20260827 does not escape chat message content before rendering it, allowing unauthenticated users to inject arbitrary HTML attributes into the page and run scripts in the browser of anyone viewing the chat, including administrators. CVE record
- CVE-2026-2987, 12 Mar 2026
- The Simple Ajax Chat plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'c' parameter in versions up to, and including, 20260217 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. CVE record
- CVE-2024-2470, 4 Jun 2024
- The Simple Ajax Chat WordPress plugin before 20240412 does not sanitise and escape some of its settings, which could allow high privilege users such as admin to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks even when the unfiltered_html capability is disallowed (for example in multisite setup) CVE record
- CVE-2024-2956, 27 Mar 2024
- The Simple Ajax Chat - Add a Fast, Secure Chat Box plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via admin settings in all versions up to, and including, 20231101 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with administrator-level permissions and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This only affects multi-site installations and installations where unfiltered_html has been disabled. CVE record
- CVE-2024-1983, 20 Mar 2024
- The Simple Ajax Chat WordPress plugin before 20240223 does not prevent visitors from using malicious Names when using the chat, which will be reflected unsanitized to other users. CVE record
What to do if you run Simple Ajax Chat
If you run Simple Ajax Chat, open WordPress and check the installed version in Plugins. Compare it with the affected versions in the vulnerability record. If a fixed version is available, take a current backup and update to that version or the latest supported release.
If no fixed version exists, consider disabling and removing the plugin or replacing it with a maintained alternative. After dealing with the affected software, check administrator users, unexpected file changes, redirects, unfamiliar pages and security logs for signs that the site may already have been altered.
