What we optimise

Website speed optimisation is six jobs, done properly

A slow site is rarely one problem. The Speed Fix works through the whole chain, from the server's first byte to the last script, on WordPress, WooCommerce or custom builds.

Images and WebP

Oversized images are the most common culprit we find. We compress, resize and convert to WebP, add lazy loading and set correct dimensions, so pages stop shipping megabytes they never display.

Caching done right

Page, browser and object caching configured for your actual stack, so repeat views are near-instant and your server does the hard work once, not on every visit.

Render-blocking JavaScript

Scripts that force the browser to stop and wait get deferred, delayed or removed. Plugin bloat is trimmed so five tools stop loading on pages that use none of them.

Fonts that do not stall

Web fonts are subset, preloaded and served with sensible fallbacks, ending invisible-text pauses and the layout jolt when the real font finally arrives.

Hosting and TTFB

If the server takes two seconds to answer, nothing downstream can save you. We tune PHP versions, enable compression, add a CDN where useful, and say honestly if the host is the bottleneck.

Database clean-up

Years of revisions, transients and autoloaded options make every query slower. We clean and index so the database answers quickly again.

Beyond the quick wins

Fixed once, then kept fast

Before and after numbers, not promises

The £349 Speed Fix: audit first, then engineering

We never optimise blind. The job starts with a full performance audit: Lighthouse runs, Core Web Vitals field data, waterfall analysis and hosting response times. Then we fix in priority order, retesting as we go, and finish with a plain-English before and after report. On WordPress we go deeper still: see our dedicated WordPress speed optimisation service.

  • Full audit before a single change is made
  • LCP, INP and CLS addressed specifically, not just scores
  • Measurable improvement or your money back

Fast in January, still fast in December

The £89 a month retainer: because speed decays

Six months after any one-off optimisation, most sites have slowed again: new plugins, uncompressed uploads, theme updates, growing databases. The Speed Retainer reviews your Lighthouse and real-user data monthly, keeps images and scripts optimised, and fixes regressions as part of the plan. Many clients pair it with an SEO audit to turn the speed gains into traffic.

  • Monthly Lighthouse and CrUX review with a report
  • Core Web Vitals kept green in Search Console
  • Regression fixes included, cancel any time

How it works

From slow to shipped in about a week

Baseline and audit

We take a full backup, then measure everything: Lighthouse mobile and desktop, Core Web Vitals field data, server response, asset weights. You see the starting numbers on day one.

Fix in priority order

Images, caching, scripts, fonts, hosting, database: worked through in the order that moves your numbers most, tested on staging, with key journeys checked after every change.

Prove it and protect it

You receive a before and after report under identical test conditions. If it did not improve, you do not pay. The retainer then keeps the result from eroding.

Frequently asked questions

How much does page speed optimisation cost in the UK?

Our Website Speed Fix is £349 excluding VAT as a one-off: a full performance audit, then hands-on optimisation of images, caching, scripts, fonts and hosting settings, with a before and after report. If we cannot measurably improve your speed, you get your money back. Keeping it fast afterwards is £89 a month.

Why is my website so slow?

Usually a stack of small causes rather than one villain: oversized images, too many plugins each loading their own scripts, no caching, render-blocking JavaScript, heavyweight fonts and a slow hosting server. Our audit measures each one on your actual site, so we fix what matters instead of guessing.

Does page speed really affect Google rankings?

Yes. Page speed has been a confirmed Google ranking factor on mobile since 2018, and Core Web Vitals joined ranking signals in 2021. Speed rarely outranks great content on its own, but between comparable pages the faster one has the edge, and slow pages lose visitors before rankings even matter.

How fast should my website load?

Google's benchmark is a Largest Contentful Paint under 2.5 seconds: the main content visible in that time. The business case is blunter: Google research found 53% of mobile visitors abandon a page taking over 3 seconds. A site taking 5 or 6 seconds on a phone loses paid clicks unseen.

What does the money-back guarantee actually cover?

We measure your site before we start and after we finish, using Lighthouse under identical conditions. If the Speed Fix produces no measurable improvement, you pay nothing. Most sites we optimise reach 90 or better on Lighthouse mobile, and you see the raw numbers, not a hand-picked screenshot.

Will speed optimisation break my website?

It should not, and we work so it cannot. Everything starts with a full backup, changes go through staging where hosting allows, and we test key journeys, forms, checkout, enquiries, after every change. This is careful engineering on your real setup, not switching on an aggressive plugin and hoping.

Do I need the Speed Retainer after the one-off fix?

Not necessarily, but speed decays. New plugins, new images and theme updates gradually undo optimisation, which is why the £89 a month retainer exists: monthly reviews, ongoing image and script optimisation, and regression fixes included, so the score you paid for is still there next year.
