- CVE-2026-92422, 20 Sep 2026
- The Meow Gallery WordPress plugin before 5.5.5 does not properly sanitize a user-supplied value before concatenating it into a shortcode string that it passes to the WordPress shortcode parser on a publicly reachable endpoint, allowing unauthenticated users to execute arbitrary registered shortcodes and disclose non-public gallery content. CVE record
- CVE-2026-92423, 20 Sep 2026
- The Meow Gallery WordPress plugin before 5.5.5 does not perform a proper capability check or restrict results to the requesting user's own posts before returning post data, allowing authenticated users with Author-level access and above to disclose the titles, authors, dates and statuses of other users' draft and private posts. CVE record
- CVE-2026-15386, 7 Aug 2026
- The Meow Gallery WordPress plugin before 5.5.2 does not escape an attachment's alt text before outputting it into an attribute of the link it builds for linked galleries, allowing users with the Author role or above to store a JavaScript payload that executes in the browser of any visitor (including administrators) who views a post containing such a gallery. CVE record
- CVE-2026-1291, 13 Jun 2026
- The Meow Gallery plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthorized modification of data due to a missing capability check on the REST API endpoint /wp-json/meow-gallery/v1/save_shortcode in all versions up to, and including, 5.4.4 This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Author-level access and above, to arbitrarily create or overwrite existing gallery shortcode records by supplying a user-controlled id value. The endpoint performs database update operations without verifying that the requesting user is authorized to modify the referenced gallery record or create their own. CVE record
- CVE-2024-4386, 14 May 2024
- The Gallery Block (Meow Gallery) plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the ‘data_atts’ parameter in versions up to, and including, 5.1.3 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level permissions and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. CVE record
- CVE-2021-24465, 4 Oct 2021
- The Meow Gallery WordPress plugin before 4.1.9 does not sanitise, validate or escape the ids attribute of its gallery shortcode (available for users as low as Contributor) before using it in an SQL statement, leading to an authenticated SQL Injection issue. The injection also allows the returned values to be manipulated in a way that could lead to data disclosure and arbitrary objects to be deserialized. CVE record
What to do if you run Meow Gallery
If you run Meow Gallery, open WordPress and check the installed version in Plugins. Compare it with the affected versions in the vulnerability record. If a fixed version is available, take a current backup and update to that version or the latest supported release.
If no fixed version exists, consider disabling and removing the plugin or replacing it with a maintained alternative. After dealing with the affected software, check administrator users, unexpected file changes, redirects, unfamiliar pages and security logs for signs that the site may already have been altered.
