CVE-2026-6454, 24 Jul 2026
The Firelight Lightbox plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored DOM Cross-Site Scripting in versions up to and including 2.3.20. This is due to insufficient sanitization of the href attribute value within the FancyBox V2 PDF beforeLoad JavaScript callback generated in inc/fancybox-2.php, where this.href is string-concatenated directly into an HTML string without escaping, allowing a stored href containing entity-encoded double-quotes to break out of the data attribute and inject arbitrary event handlers into the DOM. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers with contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages that execute whenever a user clicks the malicious PDF link. CVE record
CVE-2025-5035, 27 Jun 2025
The Firelight Lightbox WordPress plugin before 2.3.16 does not sanitise and escape title attributes before outputting them in the page, which could allow users with a role as low as contributors to perform stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks. CVE record
CVE-2025-3597, 12 May 2025
The Firelight Lightbox WordPress plugin before 2.3.15 does not prevent users with post writing capabilities from executing arbitrary Javascript when the jQuery Metadata library is enabled. While this feature is meant to only be available to Pro version users, it can be activated in the free version too, making it theoretically exploitable there as well. CVE record
CVE-2019-16524, 26 Sep 2019
The easy-fancybox plugin before 1.8.18 for WordPress (aka Easy FancyBox) is susceptible to Stored XSS in the Settings Menu inc/class-easyfancybox.php due to improper encoding of arbitrarily submitted settings parameters. This occurs because there is no inline styles output filter. CVE record

What to do if you run Firelight Lightbox

If you run Firelight Lightbox, open WordPress and check the installed version in Plugins. Compare it with the affected versions in the vulnerability record. If a fixed version is available, take a current backup and update to that version or the latest supported release.

If no fixed version exists, consider disabling and removing the plugin or replacing it with a maintained alternative. After dealing with the affected software, check administrator users, unexpected file changes, redirects, unfamiliar pages and security logs for signs that the site may already have been altered.
