CVE-2024-12145, 11 Sep 2026
The BuddyPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Insecure Direct Object Reference in all versions up to, and including, 14.3.3 via the bp_notifications_action_bulk_manage due to missing validation on a user controlled key. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Subscriber-level access and above, to delete/mark as read/mark as unread notifications of other users. CVE record
CVE-2026-8155, 31 Jul 2026
The BuddyPress WordPress plugin before 14.5.0 does not properly enforce authorization on its private messaging endpoints, allowing any authenticated user (Subscriber+) to read, modify, or delete other users' private messages. CVE record
CVE-2026-1360, 30 Jul 2026
The BuddyPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Deserialization of Untrusted Data in all versions up to, and including, 14.5.0 This is due to the `bp_unserialize_profile_field()` function using `@unserialize()` without the `allowed_classes` parameter on user-controlled XProfile field data. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to inject arbitrary PHP objects via XProfile textbox fields, which could lead to remote code execution if a suitable POP chain is available in the WordPress environment. CVE record
CVE-2020-37233, 16 May 2026
WordPress Plugin Buddypress 6.2.0 contains a persistent cross-site scripting vulnerability that allows authenticated attackers with moderator privileges to inject malicious script code through the figure parameter in wp:html blocks. Attackers can inject iframe elements with event handlers like onload that execute when administrators or privileged users preview or view the affected page content, enabling session hijacking and persistent phishing attacks. CVE record
CVE-2024-11976, 23 Jan 2026
The The BuddyPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to arbitrary shortcode execution in all versions up to, and including, 14.3.3. This is due to the software allowing users to execute an action that does not properly validate a value before running do_shortcode. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary shortcodes. CVE record
CVE-2024-10011, 25 Oct 2024
The BuddyPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Directory Traversal in all versions up to, and including, 14.1.0 via the id parameter. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Subscriber-level access and above, to perform actions on files outside of the originally intended directory and enables file uploads to directories outside of the web root. Depending on server configuration it may be possible to upload files with double extensions. CVE record
CVE-2024-4892, 12 Jun 2024
The BuddyPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the ‘display_name’ parameter in versions up to, and including, 12.4.1 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level permissions and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. CVE record
CVE-2024-3974, 14 May 2024
The BuddyPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the ‘user_name’ parameter in versions up to, and including, 12.4.0 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level permissions and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. CVE record
CVE-2021-21389, 26 Mar 2021
BuddyPress is an open source WordPress plugin to build a community site. In releases of BuddyPress from 5.0.0 before 7.2.1 it's possible for a non-privileged, regular user to obtain administrator rights by exploiting an issue in the REST API members endpoint. The vulnerability has been fixed in BuddyPress 7.2.1. Existing installations of the plugin should be updated to this version to mitigate the issue. CVE record
CVE-2014-1889, 10 Apr 2018
The Group creation process in the Buddypress plugin before 1.9.2 for WordPress allows remote authenticated users to gain control of arbitrary groups by leveraging a missing permissions check. CVE record
CVE-2014-1888, 1 Mar 2014
Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the BuddyPress plugin before 1.9.2 for WordPress allows remote authenticated users to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the name field to groups/create/step/group-details. NOTE: this can be exploited without authentication by leveraging CVE-2014-1889. CVE record
CVE-2012-2109, 4 Sep 2012
SQL injection vulnerability in wp-load.php in the BuddyPress plugin 1.5.x before 1.5.5 of WordPress allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the page parameter in an activity_widget_filter action. CVE record

What to do if you run BuddyPress

If you run BuddyPress, open WordPress and check the installed version in Plugins. Compare it with the affected versions in the vulnerability record. If a fixed version is available, take a current backup and update to that version or the latest supported release.

If no fixed version exists, consider disabling and removing the plugin or replacing it with a maintained alternative. After dealing with the affected software, check administrator users, unexpected file changes, redirects, unfamiliar pages and security logs for signs that the site may already have been altered.
