- CVE-2025-15611, 7 Apr 2026
- The Popup Box WordPress plugin before 5.5.0 does not properly validate nonces in the add_or_edit_popupbox() function before saving popup data, allowing unauthenticated attackers to perform Cross-Site Request Forgery attacks. When an authenticated admin visits a malicious page, the attacker can create or modify popups with arbitrary JavaScript that executes in the admin panel and frontend. CVE record
- CVE-2026-1165, 31 Jan 2026
- The Popup Box plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Cross-Site Request Forgery in all versions up to, and including, 6.1.1. This is due to a flawed nonce implementation in the 'publish_unpublish_popupbox' function that verifies a self-created nonce rather than one submitted in the request. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to change the publish status of popups via a forged request, granted they can trick a site administrator into performing an action such as clicking a link. CVE record
- CVE-2024-9599, 15 May 2025
- The Popup Box WordPress plugin before 4.7.8 does not sanitise and escape some of its settings, which could allow high privilege users such as admin to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks even when the unfiltered_html capability is disallowed (for example in multisite setup). CVE record
- CVE-2024-10861, 16 Nov 2024
- The Popup Box - Create Countdown, Coupon, Video, Contact Form Popups plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthorized modification of data due to a missing capability check on the deactivate_plugin_option() function in all versions up to, and including, 4.9.7. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to update the 'ays_pb_upgrade_plugin' option with arbitrary data. CVE record
- CVE-2024-3897, 2 May 2024
- The Popup Box - Best WordPress Popup Plugin plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthorized access of data due to a missing capability check on the ays_pb_create_author AJAX action in all versions up to, and including, 4.3.6. - CVE-2024-3477, 2 May 2024

What to do if you run Popup Box
If you run Popup Box, open WordPress and check the installed version in Plugins. Compare it with the affected versions in the vulnerability record. If a fixed version is available, take a current backup and update to that version or the latest supported release.
If no fixed version exists, consider disabling and removing the plugin or replacing it with a maintained alternative. After dealing with the affected software, check administrator users, unexpected file changes, redirects, unfamiliar pages and security logs for signs that the site may already have been altered.
